The Scientists and Engineers Members International (SEM), founded in 1995 by Christian scientists and engineers working in Daedeok Science Town, offers free-of-charge Korean and English language programs to foreign residents in Daejeon. Every Saturday, members of SEM visit the prison to teach Korean to foreign prisoners. They also hold various cultural activities for foreign residents in the city including traditional cultural activities and sports contests.
