| Novosibirsk
is one of the biggest cities in Russia. The city of Novosibirsk lies
on both banks of the Ob River. The day when construction of the new
bridge across the Ob River was started is considered to be the day
when Novosibirsk was founded. In 1993, Novosibirsk celebrated it's
100th anniversary. Novosibirsk's growth rate is so high, that we can
call the city the "Russian Chicago." The city of Novosibirsk
occupies an area of 477.2 square kilometers. Novosibirsk', local time
is Greenwich Mean Time plus 6. The city of Novosibirsk has a population
of about 1.5 million people. Administratively, Novosibirsk is segmented
into ten administration districts. The executive power is exercised
by the mayor and the prefects of the districts. The municipal authorities
are elected by the citizens of Novosibirsk. Elections are held once
every four years. |

climate is distinctly continental. That means that winters here are
very severe, cold and snowy. Summer is rather hot and dry. Temperatures
in summer range from 20° to 22°C; in winter range from
-18° to -20°C, but sometimes they may go down to -35°C in winter and 35°C in summer . The difference between
the highest and the lowest temperature is 88°C. Most
of the time the weather is sunny. There are 2880 hours of sunshine a year. |

Novosibirsk
ZOO: Despite the fact that information at this site is available
only in Russian. It won't stop you from enjoying the pictures of the
animals. Only a small number of the animals kept in the by zoo is
represented there, so you can get acquainted with all of them by visiting
the zoo in person.
Situated in the pine forest just ten minutes ride from the city center,
the zoo offers you more than 4000 animals of 399 species, a third
of which are rare and disappearing. |

of Regional Studies: Novosibirsk's Regional Studies Museum
is one of the major museums of Siberia. Currently, its collection
