In
1949, the administrative district of Daejeon was 35.7 km², this
changing the classification of the district to a city. In 1963, the
city grew to 88.21 km by annexing all areas of Yuchenmyeon, Daedeokgun,
and a part of Sannaemyeon and Haodeokmyeon; and in 1983, it expanded
again to 203.80 km² by annexing all areas of Yuseongeup, Haodukmyeon,
Daedeokgun and a part of Gujukmyeon, Tandongmyeon, Giseongmyeon and
Jinjammyeon, and reorganized two gu (boroughs) and 60 dongs (neighborhoods)
under the new administrative system. The city had annexed and reorganized
five gus (Dong gu, Jung gu, Seo gu, Yuseong gu, and Daedeok gu) and
26 dongs, and had grown to 539.83 km² by the end of 2001. |
| Yuseonggu
is the largest borough with 177.15 km². Seogu has the largest
population with 477,978, since the building of a new town, Dunsan.
The population of Donggu and Junggu, however, are decreasing. The
following is the current administrative district of Daejeon. |
